music group took place in November 2003, at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata, in the context of the local jazz festival. Its line-up consisted of Raffo (Keyboards), Gustavo Musso (Saxophones), Andr\u00e9s Rot (Bass) and Tom\u00e1s Babjaczuk (Drums). The following year, they were joined by Beto Merino (Percussion) and Daniel Johansen in replacement of Musso. This quintet, once settled, presented itself at the Buenos Aires Jazz y Otras M\u00fasicas festival of 2004 and it was this formation that recorded the CD \u201cGuarda que viene el tren \/ M\u00fasica de Flores, vol. 1\u201d, released in 2006. That year, following the departure of Rot and Babjaczuk towards Berklee, Pablo Martin (Bass) and Rodrigo Genni (Drums) entered the group. They performed once again at the \u201cBuenos Aires Jazz\u2026\u201d festival and later Mart\u00edn Rur replaced Daniel Johansen for the presentations of the CD at Domus Artis.<\/p>\n<p>The quintet comprised by Raffo, Rur, Martin, Genni and Merino is the formation that has recorded the CD \u201cDiat\u00f3nicos An\u00f3nimos \/ M\u00fasica de Flores vol. 2\u201d. In 2012, Beto Merino and Pablo Mart\u00edn left the group and Tom\u00e1s Pagano (bass) enters. The Raffo-Rur-Pagano-Genni quartet is the band\u2019s current line-up. In 2013 they release the CD \u201cAl Sur del Maldonado\u201d, the third volume of the \u201cM\u00fasica de Flores\u201d series They are regulars at the jazz scene of Buenos Aires. In 2007 they participate in the music\u2019s day celebration concert at the IUNA (Universitarian Nacional Arts Institute) and in 2008 they were selected to play in the \u201cBares Notables\u201d concert series by the Secretary of Culture of the city. They also performed in the 2012 edition of the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival and in the national celebration of the May 25 of 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The music composed by Raffo for this group combines the rhythmic patterns, emotional climate and aesthetic character of South-American criollo music with the improvisational spirit of jazz. These elements flow within formal structures and compositional developments commonly associated with academic music resulting in an unstable mix of erudition and tabindex=\"-1\">String Orchestra<\/span> (2012-present day)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The duo of Juan &#8220;Pollo&#8221; Raffo (piano) and Alan Plachta (guitar) was created in 2012 when they were commissioned to write music to be performed along with the Elvino Vardaro String Orchestra. Each one of the two musicians wrote half a repertoire of original music designed for guitar and piano duo plus string orchestra. The arrangements have the peculiarity of incorporating a two-way method in which Plachta may write an arrangement on one of Raffo\u2019s compositions and vice versa. They perform live, with or without the orchestra, at different venues of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n<p>Raffo has been Plachta\u2019s teacher on composition, harmony and arranging. Amongst the former are included: \u201cEl Momento entre los Trapecios\u201d (recorded with Gustavo Parra as conductor, for the collective CD \u201cNYU Composers Seminar\u201d), \u201cHell-Free Day\u201d (Included in \u201cGuarda que viene el Tren\u201d) and \u201cVesre va al Tefr\u00e9n\u201d. This last piece is made up of three sections: \u201cMigamil\u00f3n\u201d, \u201cEmbalsavals\u201d and \u201cOctangot\u00e1n\u201d. The latter includes: \u201cDiat\u00f3nicos An\u00f3nimos\u201d, \u201cSal\u00f3n Granaderos\u201d, and \u201cTipos que Nadie Escucha\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In November 1999, Raffo organized a concert at the Black Box Theater in New York City presenting all of this material. The result of this was \u201cOnce Corazones\u201d, a popular music opera with a script by Morales, lyrics by Cantilo and music by Raffo. It tells the story of a love triangle which develops in the bosom of a small-time sports club.<\/p>\n<p>Nuria Lafuente wavers between Tulio Alno, the pragmatist, and Cadorna Reyes, the dreamer. She finally marries Tulio, who promises her anything in order to win her love. However, life shows Nuria that promises are just that, promises. Upon this disappointment, she intends to go back to Cadorna but Tulio stabs her to death at a (Bizarre?) live TV show.<\/p>\n<p>The play was selected at a contest held by the Organizaci\u00f3n Teatral Presidente Alvear and it premiered in 1999 at the Teatro de la Ribera. It was directed by Rubens Correa and Javier Margulis and performed by Roberto Catarineu, Carlos March, Patricia S\u00e1nchez, Miguel Cantilo and Jorge Durietz. In the absence of Raffo (who was residing in New York at the time), the musical direction was placed in charge of Cantilo and Federico Marquest\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>For this work, Raffo and Cantilo received a nomination in the category of \u201cBest music score or soundtrack\u201d at the annual Trinidad Guevara theater awards, given out by the government of the city of Buenos Aires. During its active years, several outstanding players of the national music scene passed through its ranks, such as Pablo Rodr\u00edguez (Saxophonist and flutist); Francisco Rivero, Guillermo Arrom and Ren\u00e9 Rossano (Guitarists); Daniel Volpini, Jorge Araujo, Ernesto Zeppa and Fernando Mart\u00ednez (Drummers); and \u201cBam Bam\u201d Miranda, Rub\u00e9n S\u00e1nchez Retta, Nico Cota and Facundo Guevara (Percussionists).<\/p>\n<p>They frequently performed in renowned venues such as Babilonia and Oliverio. They also presented themselves regularly at the auditorium of the Paseo La Plaza and at the Mar del Jazz festival of 1991 and others organized by the Centro de Divulgaci\u00f3n Musical del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and the Sindicato Argentino de M\u00fasicos (SADEM).<\/p>\n<p>In November 1992, they invited guitarist Scott Henderson (Tribal Tech, Zawinul Syndicate, Chick Corea Electric Band) to join them for a concert at the Prix D\u2019Ami club, which was recorded and then released as a video. In March 1993, they were featured as guest performers in Joe Zawinul\u2019s concerts at the Auditorio de Belgrano.<\/p>\n<p>They have released three records: \u201cMonos con Navajas\u201d in 1992, \u201cMonos con Navajas II\u201d in 1994 and \u201cNoventa\/Noventa y Cinco\u201d in 2003. This last one is a compilation showing all the different formations of MCN, it includes tracks from the previous records and one third of it is previously unreleased material.<\/p>\n<p>In September 1995 they received a diploma from the Konex foundation that commended them as one of the five most prominent jazz groups in the decade spanning 1985-1995.<\/p>\n<p>They ceased their activities in late 1995. Throughout their career, they earned the recognition of the specialized media and the respect of their fellow colleagues, becoming one of the most important groups of its genre in Argentina.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" scene of the 80\u2019s. Its original members were: Raffo (Keyboards), Pablo Rodr\u00edguez (Saxophones and flute), Sebasti\u00e1n Schon (Saxophones), C\u00e9sar Silva (Guitar), Marcelo Torres (Bass) and Daniel Volpini (Drums). In 1984, Guillermo Arrom replaces Silva and, in 1986\/1987, Diego Urcola (Trumpet) takes Schon\u2019s place.<\/p>\n<p>They performed extensively in the pub circuit of their time (Jazz &amp; Pop, Prix D\u2019Ami, La Esquina del Sol, Stud Bar and others), achieving an unusually large following for a group playing only instrumental music. In 1987, they released what was to be their only record, \u201cEl G\u00fcevo\u201d, through the indie label Circe. In 1993, this material is re-released in Uruguay by the label Perro Andaluz.<\/p>\n<p>In 1989, Raffo re-assembles the group in Boston, expanding it and re-arranging the music to fit an ensemble of eleven musicians (three saxophones, two trumpets, trombone, guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and percussion), which presented itself at Berklee Performance Center in that city. Back in Buenos Aires, in the summer of 1990, he performed with that formation at the Parque Centenario auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in 2003 and continuing on to the present day, bassist and conductor Gustavo Gregorio (member of the Boston version of El G\u00fcevo) has been organizing and conducting the group in the city of Madrid, spreading Raffo\u2019s original music and arrangements throughout Spain and the rest of Europe.<br \/>\nEn 2010 el grupo se reuni\u00f3 para una serie de presentaciones en el club Jazz &amp; Pop de Buenos Aires. They debuted at the Auditorio de Buenos Aires (formerly Auditorio Kraft) and during two years they performed throughout the Buenos Aires pub circuit and that of the western suburbs of the city. It was the first group of its generation to regularly play once a week at the illustrious pub Jazz &amp; Pop.<\/p>\n<p>The band was dissolved following the departure of Luis De La Torre from the country to establish himself in New York. Its initial formation was: Raffo (Keyboards), Jorge Minissale (Guitars), Marco Pusineri (Drums) and Eduardo Rovediello (Bass). During its first year, Claudia Puy\u00f3 (Vocals) passed through its ranks and in 1977 Carlos Gar\u00f3falo entered the group as a singer, also taking over the bass the year after, following the departure of Rovediello from the group. This was established the Gar\u00f3falo-Minissale-Pusineri-Raffo quartet, which was the group\u2019s most stable and accomplished formation.<\/p>\n<p>They performed numerous concerts in the theatres of Buenos Aires, they were the opening band at the \u201c5 Horas de Rock\u201d concert of the year 1976 at the Luna Park stadium and also played in Tucum\u00e1n (at the first Encuentro Nacional de Rock Interior, together with Redd and Irreal) and at the Tronador theater in Mar del Plata. During these years they consolidated themselves as a band that caught the attention of the local medium and influenced many of the young musicians of its time.<\/p>\n<p>In 1979, Raffo left the group and was replaced briefly by Andr\u00e9s Calamaro, although finally the post of keyboardist was left in charge of Carlos Gar\u00f3falo, who was replaced at the bass by Esteban Cerioni (from Redd). This last formation recorded two songs which would be released quite some time after (2004) as part of \u201cDe Tiempos Pasados\u201d, Cerioni\u2019s solo album. The band broke up definitely in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>News: The classic Trig\u00e9mino formation (Gar\u00f3falo-Minissale-Pusineri-Raffo) had not left any recordings.
